All we have to say is one thing and one thing only.. Salvadorian Pork & Cheese Pupusas. It's one of the best things you'll ever eat and we highly recommend you make your way down here when visiting Washington. You can also try the traditional Chicken Tamales which are prepared fresh to order each time. As you can tell already, fresh and tradition are the two main staples found at the Tortilla Cafe. Counter-service style here that we love. Simply check out the menu, pick your goodness and wait for your number. It all started with Mr. Canales whom had nearly 30 years of experience running the Canales Deli. He then decided to take the next step and create the Tortilla Cafe. It was his opportunity to bring authentic ethnic Latin American cuisine to the District of Columbia. The restaurant is a family-based endeavor and the tradition continues with his daughter taking over the cafe. They have become the neighborhood go to spot that offers great quality, reasonable pricing and always, always the friendliest service possible. It is also housed in a convenient and great location right in Eastern Market that has plenty of parking and access to. For those of us whom grew up on classic American style dishes and are tired of fast food joints on every corner.. this is perhaps the best solution for you.
